Heads up! The Bavarian Center for Gifted and Talented Children is holding the next "Global Virtual Meeting for Gifted Education in Second Life", September 24th 2011 at 9 p.m. CEST. Invited speaker is Dr. Mary Bruck (USA).

Topic:Engaging Gifted Students in Critical and Divergent Thinking'

Dr. Mary Bruck has over twenty years in the field of gifted education. She is a former: teacher of students who are gifted, school district supervisor, state director of gifted, and professor of gifted education. Dr. Bruck , has been instrumental in advocating for students who are gifted and has worked with the Florida Department of Education in rule revisions for identification of students who are gifted. She has served as the state representative on the Florida Association for the Gifted Board, been an active member of the National Association of the Gifted, a consultant to various schools districts and organizations on gifted education, and appointment to state and local steering committees for gifted education. Dr. Bruck has presented nationally and internationally on a variety of themes in gifted education, including and not limited to the following: "Gifted Children: Overview of Identification and Curriculum Issues", "Gifted Girls/Smart Women", "Bibliotherapy and the Social/Emotional Needs of the Gifted", "Individualized Education Plans and Legal Ramifications", "Project Enterprise Pittsburgh - Ways to Identify Potentially Gifted Students", "Art Links: Linking Art Symbols thru the Creative Process to Identify Advanced Development and Reasoning in Students", "Problem Solving Strategies for Able Learners", "Practical Applications for Involving Bright Students in Higher Level Thinking", "Exploring the Emotional Dimension of the Gifted", "Instructional Strategies to Differentiate Curriculum for the Gifted", "Parenting the Gifted", "Misconceptions and Needs of the Gifted", "Gifted and LD Too", "Starting Full-Time Gifted Centers".

Dr. Bruck has authored a variety of courses providing a vehicle for teachers to infuse differentiation of strategies for students who are gifted into their existing curriculum. Dr. Bruck developed the following graduate level courses for gifted education:

Hot Topics in Gifted Education

Dr. Bruck has published numerous articles on gifted education and authored a newspaper column "Ask Dr. Bruck" representing various issues in gifted education. Her doctoral work focused on ways in which to identify gifted students from under-represented populations.
